The Fine Print

Privacy policy

Burg's Eye View is an independent, resident-run project about St. Petersburg city government. This page explains, in plain language, what information this site collects and what happens to it. The short version: we collect as little as possible, we sell nothing, and everything we do collect exists to run this site and nothing else.

Email signup

If you sign up for updates, we store the email address you give us, the date you signed up, and which page you signed up from. That's the whole record.

We use it for one purpose: sending you updates about this project, new case files, new features, and the full site's launch. We do not sell, rent, or share the list with anyone, and we don't use it for advertising. Every email we send will include a way to unsubscribe, and you can also just reply or write to info@burgseyeview.com and ask to be removed; removal means your address is deleted from the list, not merely suppressed. You can also ask what we have stored about you and we'll tell you.

Visitor analytics

This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how many people visit and which pages they read. It is a privacy-first tool: it does not use cookies, does not fingerprint devices, and does not follow you across other websites. What we see are totals and trends (page views, referrers, countries, browser types), not profiles of individual people.

Bot protection on forms

The signup form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which distinguishes people from automated spam. To do that, Turnstile processes limited technical signals from your browser and may set a functional cookie on the form page. It is not advertising tracking. Turnstile is a Cloudflare service and operates under Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Hosting

The site is served by Cloudflare. Like virtually all web infrastructure, Cloudflare processes visitors' IP addresses and request data to deliver pages and protect against attacks, under its own privacy policy. We do not receive or keep individual visitor logs.

Fonts

This site's typefaces are self-hosted: your browser gets them from this site, not from a third-party font service, so no font provider sees your visit. If a third-party font service is ever used in the future, its provider would receive standard technical requests (including your IP address) under its own privacy policy, and this page will say so.

Cookies

This site sets no tracking cookies and runs no advertising. The only cookie you may encounter is the functional one described under bot protection, on pages with the signup form.

Children

This site is about municipal government and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children; if you believe a child has submitted an email address, write to info@burgseyeview.com and it will be deleted.

Public records

The investigations on this site quote and link public records of the City of St. Petersburg and of Florida courts. Those documents are public by law. If you believe something published here contains personal information that should be redacted, email info@burgseyeview.com and it will be reviewed promptly.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Material changes affecting the email list will be announced to the list itself.
